BIM: Building Information Modeling
This is a working method for creating and managing a construction project.
Its purpose is to centralise all the information on the project in a digital information model created by all the agents participating in the construction process (promoters, architects, quantity surveyors, constructors, manufacturers and bodies and quality control laboratories).
It consists of making a virtual construction before the real construction and for this, virtual materials are necessary.
As agents participating in the construction process, our obligation as manufacturers is to supply designers with the tools necessary for preparing projects according to the BIM method.
In La Paloma Cerámicas we offer designers the possibility of having its products and systems in BIM format for downloading and incorporation into the project. Thus the technician will have access to the product information immediately at any time and in any place.
This will be possible through the platform for downloading BIM Object products families in which La Paloma Cerámicas has its catalogue of BIM products.
Each project will have elements (walls, weights, façades, partitions, etc) which will have associated parameters (dimensions, weights, properties, etc). Thus a database of information in a project is constructed thanks to the properties of the virtual model itself.
All parameters inserted in the BIM project must contain information that contributes to generating value in the project. For example, once a wall type component is inserted, it is interesting to know who supplies it, its weight, its properties and, definitively, all the technical properties that affect the correct behaviour of this constructional element.
In the BIM Object platform, the designer will have the opportunity to download any product with its associated parameters – weights, dimensions, available formats, properties, etc.
- Working in BIM encourages the fluidity of information between architects, engineers, promoters and constructors. Thus, if the designer specifies a La Paloma brick and the calculations office, if it is different, needs to know the brick’s properties such as, for example, its weight, for its calculations, it will not be necessary to request the technical file from the designer who in turn requests it from the manufacturer, thus reducing necessary procedures.
- The designing architect can obtain all types of measurements with a single click – measurements of constructional elements such as façade m2, and count the structural elements such as the number of “type I façade panels” and thus the number of units of brick in each “type I façade panel,” weight, etc.
- The designing architect will have BIM objects with the maximum detail of information, both technical and graphical, and can generate renderings with the real image of the specified material itself.
- Any element in the project is created in real time in the active view and in the rest of the views in the project, that is, it works in 2-D and 3-D at the same time.
